Property Description
Escape the modern world and make the Lazy Acres Headquarters your own private sanctuary. This beautiful 6.38 acre property, bordering the city limits of Cottonwood, AZ has been owned by one family since it was founded in the mid-50s, and is now ready for a new generation of owners to make it their own.
The property offers panoramic views, excellent dirt road access in and out, flat open areas for building, and minimal restrictions (no HOA!)
Perfect for those who need a place not only for their family and horses, but a place to ride without trailering to an arena or trailhead. With National Forest State Parks and thousands of acres state land just across the property line just saddle up and take off.
The original owners, Chet and Mary McCarty, were in vacation in the mid-50s with their camp trailer when they fell in love with the Verde Valley and developed Lazy Acres as their dream retirement home. The house, built in 1964, was custom-designed to duplicate the historic 1950s Route 66 Hotel Suites. Chet was a cowboy, raised in western Colorado, a founding member of the Turtle Association, which was the precursor to the PRCA. A professional rodeo champion and competitor, he was also a stunt double to the famed Gene Autry.
Mary, an orphaned heiress and niece to the famous Pierpoint-Whites of Palm Springs CA, was an exemplary horsewoman herself. Involved in the Horse and Hound type of show horses, she herself was on the horse show circuit nearly as long as Chet was on the rodeo circuit.
The Lazy Acres Ranch was a stopping place for people from both the rodeo and the horse show circuits, as well as the movie stars and producers of Western movies.
